General Note:
View of the Justina Ford House (1890) located at 3091 California Street in the Five Points neighborhood (Curtis Park) of Denver, Colorado. The two-story red brick structure served as Dr. Justina Ford's home and office from 1912 until her death in 1952. Dr. Ford, was the first African American, female physician in both Denver and Colorado. The house, restored in 1991, has a flat roof, a pressed metal cornice, and sits on a stone foundation. Brick string courses and sill courses surround and accentuate the arches over the front entry door and the first floor window. There is a row of three segmental arched windows with drop moldings on the second floor. The house was originally located at 2335 Arapahoe Street, but moved to its current location in 1984 when a developer tore down neighboring properties. The building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was rehabilitated to house the Black American West Museum.
