View of the interior of the Mercury Cafeâ• ü, 2199 California Street, in the Five Points Neighborhood of Denver, Colorado. People sit at a counter with swiveling chairs. Shows tables, chairs, booths and stained glass hanging lights. A painted sign on the wall reads: "Fatz City." Marilyn Megenity opened the Mercury Cafeâ• ü in this building, the site of a former warehouse, in 1990. The cafe has been in twelve previous locations since being founded by Megenity in 1975. In addition to serving food, the cafe hosts concerts, poetry readings, dance classes, and community events.
