General Note:
View of the Recreational Equipment Inc. (REI) Building, 1416 Platte Street, in the Highland neighborhood of Denver, Colorado. Shows the southeast elevation of the red brick building with a parapet with a corbeled cornice, and three inset corbeled, blind arches delineated by pilasters. A corbeled belt course divides the elevation into two sections. The top portion has circular clerestory windows and a concrete panel that reads, "The Denver Tramway Power Co, 1901." The lower portion has round arched windows and entrances. The former Denver Tramway Power Company powerhouse (1901; architects, Stearns and Rogers Co.) and home to the Forney Museum of Transportation. The building was restored and rehabilitated (1998-2000; architects- Mithun Partners, Seattle, WA) for use as a sporting goods store.
