From inventory: "The San Acacio Catholic church was built in the 1860's to fulfill a promise made when the community was in danger of being attacked by a Ute war party. One version of the story states that a vision of a warrior coming to defend the small settlement appeared in the clouds and startled the Ute war party, causing their retreat."
