General Note:
From inventory: "José Repito Durán, born in 1893 in New Mexico and married María Rebecca Gallegos in 1919. Active in the Sociedad Protección Mutua de Trabajadores Unidos (Society for the Mutual Protection of United Workers - SPMDTU), he was a prominent advocate for Hispano people. As people moved to Brighton from southern Colorado and northern New Mexico, José allowed them to camp on his Brighton farm land until they got settled. One time after being told to move from sitting in the middle of a movie theater, he brought discrimination charges against the theater that only allowed Mexicans to sit on the left side of the movie house and won.
