General Note:
From inventory: "José Ramos Valdez was the Postmaster in San Luis, CO between 1900-1945. He owned the Heraldo newspaper, precursor to the modern Free Press. His "American" neighbors called him Happy, and Happy Hooligan. He studied at the Trinidad Academy from where he graduated in May before his 16th birthday. He went to work in the coke ovens until age 19, when a Mrs. Wilson offered a scholarship at Del Norte College, to a Spanish boy that might qualify. He took the examination and was given the scholarship. In Del Norte, in his sophomore year he met his future wife, Gavinita Rodriguez." Photo Description Source: Maria C. Martinez, genealogist
