Studio portrait of Hispanic American José Ramón Aguilar, he served in the Colorado General Assembly House of Representatives and later as Las Animas County Commissioner and Mayor of Aguilar which was named in his honor. He wears a jacket, has a full beard and mustache and his wavy hair is parted on the side.

From inventory: "José Ramón Aguilar settled in the Apishapa Valley of southern Colorado in 1879. He represented Las Animas County in the Colorado General Assembly House of Representatives (Democrat) from 1881-1882 and from 1887-1888. He also served as a Las Animas County Commissioner in 1891 and again in 1904. Incorporated in 1894, the town of Aguilar is named for Jose Ramon Aguilar.
