From inventory: "Rug and Blanket beater made during the Depression when President Roosevelt founded the Works Progress Administration (WPA) in 1935. Under the WPA , a weaving project started in 1935 in San Luis, Colorado where few weavers still continued the old traditions. María Salomé Córdova was a consultant on the project. G. Madden Jones and Gladys Robinson of Fort Garland started and ran the project which ended in 1940." (Courtesy of Hispanic Pioneers in Colorado and New Mexico).
