From inventory: "Rituals performed by la Hermanidad on Good Friday included the rattling of the matraca (a heavy wooden noise maker). One Hermano would circle the church while swinging and rattling the loud matraca to signify that services were ready to begin." (Courtesy of Hispanic Pioneers in Colorado and New Mexico).
