Nuptial Plans Told
After An Absence Of Many Years, Priest
Greets Old Friends And Former Pupils
The Rev. Arthur Yamabe of
Guadalupe, Calif., returnedtoDen-
ver last week after an absence of
33 years. For the priest from the
Buddhist Church in Calif., here
for speaking engagement at Tri-
State Buddhist Church, and the
churches in Brighton and Fort
Lupton, it was "old home week,"
meeting his friends of long ago.
He had arrived in Denver in
1919 from Japan to join his fath-
er who was then working atHabro,
near Moffat tunnel. Young Yamabe,
when his father subsequently re-
turned to Japan, camedown toDen-
ver, supported himself and gradu-
ated from Manual High School and
D.U., where he majored in relig-
ious philosophy. During summers,
he taught Japanese language to
niseis in Fort Lupton, Brighton and
Denver. Earnings from this work
helped to keep him in school.
Thus it was, last week, that he
renewed acquaintance with Mrs.
Ri-se Yoshida now of 3335 Gilpin
st., who had looked after young
Yamabe. That was 30-odd years
ago when the Yoshidas lived in Fort
Lupton, where he taught nihongo,
and pupils included Mrs. Yoshida's
children, Keichi and Fusako, now
Mrs. Kuritani of Denver, and the
children of Tameji Koshio, and
many others.
