The remaining tangible link be-
tween tiie Mitsutaro Tawaras of
>2240 Tremont st. and their past,
back in Peru, is their eldest daugh-
ter, Mrs. Toshiko Honda, and her
family, residing in the port city
of Callao. Through her, the Ta-
waras may be able to negotiate
with the Peruvian government con-
cerning its current unexpected of-
fer to compensate for its seizure
of properties from Japanese famil-
ies In Peru at outset of World
War H.
Unlike the predicament of Jap-
anese Americans onwestcoastwho
were processed for evacuation
soon after Dec. 7, 1941, the Peru-
vian government did not proceed
against Japanese nationals until
early in 1943. In summery Febru-
ary of that year, Tawara was quiet-
ly harvesting bananas on his farm
at the seashore community of Ca-
nete, few miles south of the national
capitol of Lima. Although Denver
in February is apt to be snow-
bound, February in Peru Is mid-
summer harvest time.
Thus, reluctantly but quietly,
Tawara submitted to confinement,
and the long journey northward to
the U.S., and eventually toDenver.
Now, for Tawara and his fam-
ily, life is orderly, quiet. In the
years since his evacuation from
Peru, and the evacuation of Japan-
ese Americans from U.S. west
coast, domestic and international
conflicts have imposed evacuations
upon tiie hapless families In many
'other parts of the world.
