Two On CoMission
A project approved by the last
state legislature was formation of
the long-range study commission
on local affairs.
Governor Love named to this
commission 100 civic, educational
and political leaders from all sec-
tions of the state. Among those
named were Mike Mfzokami of
Blanca in San Luis Valley, and
State Rep. Seiji Horiuchi of Brigh-
ton.
The legislature appropriated
$100,000 to launch the commission.
Lectures At Church
Sho-yu Hanayama, student at Un-
ion Theological Seminary in New
York City will lecture in English
on Wednesday, June 5, 8 p.m. at
the church. He is the son of Bud-
dhist Bishop Nobukatsu Hanayama
of San Francisco.
Informal discussion period will
follow the lecture. The visitorwas
guest of honor at dinner reception

Scholar Graduating Class Salutatorian
Ray Imatani delivered address
of class salutatorian at Brighton
High School graduation ceremony.
Ray is the son of the Jim Imata-
nis. He received joint honor scho-
larship at CU. Paul Sasa of the
class, head boy of Student Coun-
cil, received scholarship to CU
and $280 grant. Rosemary Hishi-
numa received the $500 Brighton
Scholarship Foundation Award. She
is daughter of the George Hishi-
numas.
Dr. Kenneth Uyehara, repre-
senting Brighton JAA, served on
the award committee.
Jefferson county high school
graduates include Minoru Sal jo
from Japan, at Evergreen, and
Darryl Kaneko at Jefferson.
Rocky Ford Graduates at Rocky
Ford High includes Aim Hirokawa,

Hashimoto, of Ent AFB, but fin-
ally, it came.
What came to him last week from
U.S. Defense Department was the
citation and Bronze Star medal for
bravery in action. That action in
which the sergeant displayed brav-

work on his M.A. at Ore. State
College. He then will join Lewis
& Clark College faculty at Port-
land, Ore.
Grand Junction Annual award
assembly was held last week at
Mesa College. Ed Mayeda of Den-
ver received the chemistry hand-
book award.

Approve Master Plan
Boulder CU Regents last week
approved revised master plan, for
physical development of campus,
which anticipates 20,000 students
in 1972.
Landscape Architect Hldeo Sa-
saki from Boston explained to the
regents one phase of the plan
which, for example, would virtually
eliminate cross-campus roadways
for autos, retain die malls and
court yards and, generally, re-
tain flavor of present campus
architecture.
Sasaki, professor of landscape
architecture at Harvard Univer-
sity, and partner in Sasaki, Wal-
ker and Associates, landscape ar-
chitect firm in Boston, is consul-
tant on the long-range development
program at pU.
Recall Battlefield
Mrs. T. Tanamachi of San Ben-
ito, Tex., gold star mother and
guest at war memorial dedica-
tory service, was house guest of
the Joe Sakatos last week.
It was in Joes's arms that
Mrs. Tanamachis son, Saburo,
died in French battlefield nearly
20 years ago. He was mortally
wounded by a German machine
gun fire in battle action near Bi-
fontaine.
A few days earlier, and also
in Joes third squad, Ben, brother
of Mike Masaoka had died in action.
George Futamata also was a mem-
ber of the same squad, and John
Tanaka was member of the 2nd
squad of the same platoon.
Joe and Saburo buddied at Camp
Blanding, Fla., early in 1944, and
from there, they were senttoCamp
Shelby, Miss., and thence to Nap-
les, Italy, as 442nd Regimental
Combat Team replacement. By
autumn of that year, Saburo was
dead.
Joe himself grew up in Red-
lands, Calif., moved to Phoenix,
Ariz., at outset of the war, and
entered Army early in 1943.
MASTERS EVENT
Ken Matsuda scored 1272 for
second place in state bowling tour-
neys masters event.
Yosh Aral introduced gold star
mothers, parents and relatives at
dedicatory service on Memorial
Day. He said two guests who per-
haps traveled farthest to attend It
were Mmes. M. Akimoto from Up-
land, Calif., mother of John and
Victor; and Mrs. T. Tanamachi
from San Benito, Tex., mother of
Saburo.

honored war dead, include Mmes.

COMMUNITY ENDEAVOR
Community Memorial Day ser-
vices and dedication of monument ^
was a community endeavor. It
drew upon effort and contributions
of the old and the young. More notes

Court. The issei petitioners were
received by Federal Chief Judge
Alfred Arraj, Federal Judges Hat-
field Chilson and William Doyle.
Doyle, court spokesman, said,
"It is my great privilege to wel-
come you as American citizens.
Ray Tani accompanied the issels
to court for the ceremony. They
were balked later that day in their
attempt to register in the City and
County bldg, because the registra-
tion books were closed until after
the mayoral runoff election.
They had attended the citizenship
class taught by Harry Matoba. One
of the oldest new citizen is Sa-
"taro Kunita of 2143 Larimer st.,
and the youngest included Junko
Imura, 28, of 3238 St. Paul st.,
and AtsukoKagiyama, 29, of Brigh-
ton.
