Young Judo Black Bolt Official Dies
Funeral services were held at
Koyasan temple Tuesday at Koya-
san temple in Los Angeles
for the la*e Kenzo Uyeno of Wash-

Black Belt Federation.
The 39-year-old nisei died last
week in a Washington hospital
during a tonsillectomy,
Tooru Takamatsu of Denver Judo
School, Uyeno's friend and judo
associate of many years, said the
UCLA graduate and data analyst
in the U.S. Navy Dept., visited
here with him last March. Sub-
sequently Uyeno, who was a bache-
lor, represented the Black Belt
group at Pan American Games in
Sao Paolo, Brazil.
Before World War II, Takamatsu
became acquainted with Uyeno at
periodic judo tournaments in Los
Angeles. They rarely confronted
each other, Takamatsu recalled,
'because Uyeno was younger than
I and we usually faced opponents
in different divisions.*

institute of the denomination at
Calgary, Manitoba. Calgary is

Initiate Pilot Youth Far* Labor Plan
La Junta A pilot farm labor
program for boys will be organiz-
ed in Otero county, north of Ark.
River in Ark. Valley. The pro-
gram is a cooperative venture en-
gaging active support of State Em-
ployment Service and Federal La-
bor Dept.
A local organization supporting
the program is the Empire Field
Crops, Inc., and its executive seep
Corps, Inc., and its executive
secretary, Bob Mayeda.
Boys 16-18 years of age will be
trained in crop work and be paid
90 cents per hour.

RETURNS TO WORK
Shigeo Otsu, owner of Asia Cafe
at 1213 19th st., has recovered
sufficiently from injuries to reopen
the establishment thrice weekly,
on Fridays, Saturdays andSundays.
Some weeks ago, he sustained in-
juries when he fell from a ladder.
He had been painting in his res-
taurant.

at recent ceremonies at Arlington
National Cemetery's Tomb of the
Unknown Soldier.

wamura's best man.

Boulder Mrs. Judy Iwai is one
of 25 teachers approved by the'
county school board for placement
on public school instructional staff
this autumn. Mrs. Iwai will teach
in a primary school.
Near Conpletion
More than half of the work on
installation of new kitchen in the
Tri-State Buddhist Church has
been completed. Work is being done
by Sam Suekama. It is expected
that the facility will be ready
for use this autumn.
Space occupied by the old kitchen
will be converted into a room for
use by Sunday School classes and
by Boy Scouts, according to Tad
Yamamoto.

Trinidad Among 135 graduates
at Trinidad junior College was Ray
M. Moji from Los Angeles.
Greeley Sansei graduates of
Greeley High includes DonMiyoshi
and Joan Takamine. Joan received
a regents scholarship to CU at
Boulder.
By coincidence, Denverites
hosted both groups of transcon-
tinental travelers from Japan last
weekend.
Misses Hideko Murai and Kanae
Takazawa motored into town over
the week-end, as well as the five
Waseda hikers, lead by Noboru
Tajima, and Katsuyuki Takahashi,
Takashi Yagi, Shiichlro Onishi and
Mitsui Shida. All are 22, except
Tajima who is 23.
The girls headed eastward Mon-
day. The boys are to be guests
at farewell party for them Thurs-
day at the residence of Masa-
kuni Iguchi on Friday. They will
depart Saturday. Both groups are
headed for New York City.

Mc >RE Japanese like the United States as a neighbor than any other country,
according to a Tokyo Shimbun survey.
Questionnaires were sent out to 800 readers of whom better than 500 re-
plied.
To the question, what neighboring country do you like the most, 44.9 per
cent answered U.S., 3.5 per cent answered Communist China, 2.6 per cent Tai-
wan, and 2.4 per cent Soviet Union. No preference was listed by 37.4 per cent
and 8.7 per cent replied they didnt know.
Among nearby countries they disliked most: 25.7 per cent said Soviet
Union, 10.8 per cent South Korea, 4.9 per cent North Korea, 4.2 per cent Com-
munist China, 2.8 per cent U.S., and 1.7 per cent Taiwan. No preference was
listed bv 39,8 per cent. 10.1 per cent did not know.
