ARTIST VISITS HERE
Koen Nakaya of New York City,
where he is studying techniques of
leading American abstract paint-
ers, visited here last week. His
current trip included exhibitions of
his paintings in Mexico City, Seat-

HTYAMAS CELEBRATE
GOLDEN WEDDING
A long time age, in 1913, a
hesitant young bride from Fukuo-
ka walked off a trans-Pacific ves-
sel in Tacoma, Wash. And waiting,
there on the wharf, was her groom-
to-be from far-off Ovid, Colorado.
That was young Masakichi Hiyama.
The happy couples golden wed-
ding anniversary was celebrated
the other night at the Lotus Room,
hosted by their son-in-law, Frank
Shimono; the son-in-law and
daughter, Frank and Ruth Kami-
bayashi; the son Frank Hiyamas
family, and Fred and Ruby Miya-
zawa. Mrs. Miyazawa is Frank
Shimonos daughter.
The elder celebrants have liv-
ed their entire married lives form-
ing in Colorado in Ovid, Granby
and in Brighton. Upon retirement
they moved to Denver. Their nine
grandchildren and close friends
and relatives attended the cele-
bration.

solemnized Sunday, Dec. 1 at the
Buddhist Church. Their parents
are the Kazuo Matsuos of 2124
Osceola st. and Takeo Tanigawas
of Honolulu, Jean graduated from
DU In 1961 and Roy Is a 1959
graduate of Univ. of Indiana.
The bride-to-be teaches at Flor-
ence Ave. school while the groom-
to-be is an electrical engineer for
North American Aviation Co. in
Los Angeles.
The bridal party includes: ma-
tron of honor, Mrs. Lois Sato;
bridesmaid, Janice Tanigawa; flo-
wer girl, Jane Suekama; best man,
Ted Matsuo; groomsman Taka-
yoshi Sakai; ushers, RogerSue-
kama and Steve Ishimoto; pianist,
Mrs. Dick Yamamoto.
Mrs. Tanigawa and her daugh-
ter, Janice, will come from Hawaii
to attend the event. Reception will
be held at the Lotus Room.

to be held next month by the Nisei
Womens Club. Plans for it, to be

Demonstration of the automatic
election booth will be conducted
for the benefit of newly naturalized
isseis Monday, Nov. 25, 7:30p.m.,
in room 178 of the City and Coun-
ty bldg.

instructor of the Nihon jin Kai citi-
zenship classes.
EMPLOYMENT AND HOUSING
Racial minority employment and
housing problems were subjects of
recent meetings in Denver.
Local, state and federal officials
participated in a session Co discuss
employment opportunities for mi-
nority groups.
Also, the membership meeting of
Fair Housing Council was held at
the Negro Shorter AME Church.
The council proposes to open up the
Denver metropolitan area general-
ly to all minority groups in market
for new homes. The groups spon-
sors are organizations represent-
ing several racial elements of the
city, including Mile Hi JACL.
RELIGION LEADERS
The Rev. Noboru Tsunoda of Tri-
State Buddhist Church was among
church officials who attended the
meeting of religious leaders called
by Mayor Currigan.
The program for this session,
was prepared by Mrs. Helen Peter-
son, director of the Mayors Com-
mission on Community Relations.
MEMBERSHIP RENEWED
San Francisco Three Mile Hi
JACL chapter members were
among those who recently renewed
their memberships in the 1000
Club. They are: James Imatani,
George Kaneko and Yutaka Tera-
saki.
TWO NATURALIZED
Two Japanese were naturalized
as UJS. citizens in October, said
John Clingan, district director of
U.S. Dept, of Justices Immigra-
tion and Naturalization Service.
They were: Mrs. Yoshi Benson
of Colorado Springs and Mrs. Eiko
Hahn of 450 Cherry st. in Denver.

the handicapped learn to swim, are

The U.S. Immigration and Nat-
uralization Service said these per-
sons were among women who be-
came citizens during the month of
