Mrs. Alice Wakasugi of Blanca.

SERVICES HELD FOR
TOKITARO MATSUZAKI
Greeley Services were held at
the Kyudo Kai of the Buddhist
Church last week for the late Toki-
taro Matsuzaki, 81.
Young Matsuzaki, from Fukuoka,
landed in Seattle In Sept., 1901,
headed first for work in the cop-
per mines of Nevada. He came to
Fort Lupton in 1932 and had moved
to Greeley in 1953. Matsuzaki,
who was living at the Greeley Nurs-
ing Home, was interred at Linn
Grove ceretery here.
International Center Plan Advanced

In the community of Ashiya, Ja-
pan, an international cultural cen-
ter is envisioned, at the moment,
by a handful of people. Hopefully,
many people in the UJS. as well as
Japan will wish to support it, says
Mrs. Elizabeth H. Rose of Den-
ver.
On her recent trip to Ashiya,
Mrs. Rose contributed $50,000 to-
ard that project, a contribution
which she carefully noted, came
from a legacy fund earmarked for
a meaningful program to promote
world peace.
A proposal to spruce up lower
downtown area was affirmed last
week by commissioners of Den-
ver Urban Renewal Authority. The
renewal project would be applied
to an area bound by Speer Blvd.,
alley between Market and Larimer
Steets, 20th St., Champa St. to 18th
St., on Curtis St. to 14th St., back
to Champa St. and to the point of
origin at Speer Blvd.
The project, she explained, or-
iginated with her friendship with
a Mrs. Katsuo Hirose of Ashiya
who had been offered 20 acres of
land by the community's Royu
Development Co. The conditional
offer rested on the prospect that
such a cultural center be estab-
lished on this land.
The latest development in the
progress of the project, Mrs. Rose
reported, is that the development
company is sending its managing
director, Michihiro Kawashima, to
UJS. to inspect similar institutions.
