The Gray Ladies of St. Luke's
Hospital recently participated in
the UN flag presentation ceremony
at the tri-state Red Cross con-
ference here. Officiating at the
ceremony were Mmes. H. H. Ume-

County Nurse Named
Las Animas The Bent County
Commissioners announced last
week the appointment of Mrs. Syl-
via Mayeda, RN, as the new county
public health nurse. She will as-
sume her office at the public wel-
fare bldg, on January 2.
Mrs. Mayeda, who resides in
Lajunta, is a graduate of the School
of Nursing at the Mennonite Hos-
pital. She has been an instructor
at the hospital's practical nursing
school. The public health nurse's
position has been vacant since last
summer.

sored by the Japanese Assn, and
taught by Harry Matoba.
State Rep. Seiji Horiuchi of Ad-
ams County was named as vice-
chairman of the new House Metro-
politan Affairs Committee.
The Rev. Shigeo Yamabe, pas-
tor of the Buddhist Church in Guad-
alupe, Calif., returned to visit
Tri-State Buddhist Church and its
members after an absence of 33
years.
Fort Lupton Jr. Chamber of
Commerce names Sam Funakoshi
as outstanding young farmer.
The Akebono restaurant on a
snowy night was the setting for in-
stallation of Mile Hi JACL offi-
cers headed by Pres. Bill Kuroki.
Tech. Sgt. Takashi Sakabe of
Lowry AFB was awarded Com-
mendation medal.
Fort Lupton JACL chapter con-
tributed $588 to the issei history'
project.
The Rev. Eizo Sakamoto of Rocky
Ford's First Christian Church was
named manager of the Rocky Ford
Credit Union.
ICS Sweatheart Ball is scheduled
on Feb. 15 at CSU Student Center.

Seven Teams Will Launch Cage Season
Seven teams thus far have been
signed up for the NCN cage league
series, said Floyd Ito, president
of the organization. Its vice presi-
dent is Yosh Nago.and secretary-
treasurer is Steve Ishimoto.

ers in the old Tokyo Grill team,

Golden The weekly story hour
for four and five-year-old chil-
dren each Tuesday morning at
the county library has frequently
featured original puppet shows
presented by Mrs. Hiroshi Saiki

It is perhaps merely coincidence that
at opposite sides of Tokyo two popular
monuments feature dogs. At the en-
trance to Ueno Park a statue (above)
of Saigo Takamorr, hero of the mid-
19th-century movement which was to
bring Japan into the modern world,
shows him with his dog. And at Shibuya
station loyal Hachiko (right), oblivious
of the pressing crowds, still seems to
watch year after yearas he did in
lifefor his master who never re-
turned. His statue was erected by
, commuters who had admired fidelity.
