legislation in Congress to grant
non-quota immigration status to
a young widow, Mrs. Kiyo Fuji-
moto Howard. Senator McGee in
1959 rendered similar assistance
to Tadayoshi Takeda Shuto of
Cheyenne, a compassion case. He
is now married to the former To-
shiko Yamashita of Denver.
Mrs. Howard's husband was kill-
ed in an auto accident in Japan in
1961. His parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Roscoe Howard of Casper wished
to have their sons widow and in-
fant live with them, but immigra-
tion laws prevented this except
by special act of Congress.
Suyematsu, member of local law
firm of Miller, Suyematsu, Crow-
ley and Duncan, noted that Senator
McGee, who is up for re-election,
appears to have personal interest
and concern for the welfare of
Japanese individuals, a matter
which should not go unnoticed."The
Shutos, incidentally, have a sen, 4,
named Gale, named after the Sena-
tor.
'HOOTENANNY** show forth-
coming at Brighton High includes
Bob Sakaguchi. Karen Tazawa,
freshman, was elected student body
treasurer for 1964-65.

Hunting And Fishing
(Part II.)
These are but two of many Den-
ver nisei hunting and fishing
sportsmen. In top photo, George
Uyeno displays pair of plumb Can-
adian geese shot in season with
10-guage three inch Magnum shell.
Ike Wada in the accompanying
photo shows off pair of German
Browns caught down at Antero re-
sevoir near Fairplay.
Uyeno likes fishing as well as
hunting, but out of necessity, he
leans toward the latter sport in
autumn. Hes kept busy summers
at his establishment, Roy System
Shoe Repair at 26 Broadway. It
discourages his forays to the
mountain streams.
For hunting geese, he often fre-
quents the Two Buttes area down
in Springfield in southeastern
Colorado. But as often as not, he
can be found also cm seasonal
week-ends up at Prewittreservofr
near Merino in northeastern part of
the state, or up in southwestern
Nebraska,, or up at favorite hunting
sites in Wyoming.
George Uyeno
Las Vegas, Hew Mexico's "Sister City"
Las Vegas is a quiet town east
of Santa Fe, New Mex., but its
like-named sister city in
Nevada is a world-renowned re-
sort of a sort. This geographic
problem threw visitor, Sojiro Xo-
bayashi of Tokyo into temporary
confusion.
Before visiting Denver last
week-end, the visitor had asked
his friend, Hatsuki Tashiro ofMe-
silla Park in southern New Mex.,
to meet him in Las Vegas, Ne-
vada, assuming somehow that it
was but a short driving distance
from his farm. K obayashi subse-
quently arranged to visit Tashiro
at his farm. Tashiro, Dr. S* Fu-
rugochi and others in southernNew
Mex. and El Paso area feted the
visitor from Tokyo at dinner re-
cently. Forty years ago, K oba-
yashi met Tashiro when he was
farming in Arkansas Valley. Last
week-end, K obayashi was a guest
of the Kentaro Takedas in Rocky
Ford, Arkansas Valley.

People And Places
A generation ago, theoldMiyako
Hotel at 1943 Larimer St. was a
thriving establishment, frequent-
ed by newcomers, mostly evacues
from WRA camps.
The hostlery, once owned by the
late Zensuke Kanegaye, had been
untenanted in recent years, ex-
cept on occasions by transients.
Then last January, fire gutted the
place. The building was razed re-
cently and with it went a Nihonjin
machi landmark of a sort.
Police say the chap responsible
for the fire is a transient who
holed up in the Miyako on that
cold January night, tried to warm
up by lighting a small blaze. That
started die disastrous fire.
The transient is a London-born
adventurer named Andy Diven,
maybe 70. The fellow says he serv-
ed in the British Army in China
in World War 1, subsequently wan-
dered through the Far East,
Canada and the U.S. After the Mi-
yako hotel fire, police questioned
him and suspended the sentence
against him for trespassing.
CARL SAITO purchased a home
at 6215 Harlan St. in Arvada, it
was reported.

Welfare Fund Campaign
The Japanese Association of Colorado's welfare departmentserves
the friendless, the kin-less and the indigent isseis. The depart-
ment, for example, took care of more than 50 funeral services
during the past seven years for these unfortunate isseis among us.
Now the depleted fund of this department must be replenished.
We trust that, out of your regard for these unfortunate, aged persons
among us, and our effort in their behalf, you will wish to donate
to this work. Contributions may be sent to Mr. Masakuni Iguchi.
Donations also may be brought to the movie show sponsored by the
Association on Sunday, Mar. 15, 7 p.m., at the Buddhist Church.
