Pressed by business engage-
ments at home, the Tokyo financ-
ier, Hirosuke Ishikawa, Is ex-
pected to make a swift turn-around
upon his scheduled arrival here
Sunday.
The cablegram received last
week at the Buddhist Church from
the Rev. Yoshitaka Tamai in Ja-
pan indicated that he and Ishi-
kawa ezpect to arrive here Sun-
day. The visitor, who is the new
chairman of the board of United
Nations Insurance Co., was ex-
pected to confer with its offic-
ials Monday, and probably return
to Tokyo on Tuesday.
TAMAICHI YAMADA returned
Mar. 15 from Hiroshima where
he visited with his ailing mother,
then attended the funeral services
for her.

Chamber of Commerce project to
call public attention to winter
sports attractions and facilities

The program included entertain-

A valley map shows a commun-
ity named South fork on the Rio
Grande River, a dozen miles west
of Del Norte.

Ministry Scientist
Boulder Dr. Kinnosuke Kawa-
kami, 47, research scientist of Ja-
pans Ministry of Post and Com-
munications, visited die facilities
of the National Bureau of Stand-
ards last week. Among his hosts
was Dr. Hiroshi Takuma, engaged
in studies at the bureau on a one-
year leave from Tokyo University.
He is making a study of the mil-
limeter wave, it was reported.

Rocky Ford Tom Nakayama
is a member of the board of di-
rectors of the new Pioneer Nurs-
ing Home. This institution open-
ed its doors to patients on Mai*.

Tokyo Progress of nisei busi-
ness and professions in the North,
Central and South America and in
Japan was discussed last week at
the AU japan Nisei convention
at the imperial Hotel. Speakers
were to have included U.S. Am-
bassador Edwin O. Reischauer,
convalescing from wounds inflict-
ed last week by an assassin.
LONGMONT Ryoko Else, 17,
of Greeley High, a participant in
the recent school art contest, re-
ceived fourth and fifth places.
FULBRIGHT SCHOLAR Dr.
Hiromichi Oyake from Hirosaki
University in Japan is a resident
in pediatrics at Denver General
Hospital under the FulhrightScho-
larship program.
A Mother-Daughter Chat Via Radio
Fifteen jet flying hours and 4,
028 miles lie between Denver and
Guayaquil, Ecuador, on the north-
eastern coast of South America*
The other day, Mrs. Phoebe Sa-
sano of Arvada talked with her
daughter, Kim, aboard U.S. hospi-
tal ship, Hope I, anchored off
Guayaquil.
Their chat was made possible by
Walter Nettles of 201 S. Eudora
St., operator of the amateur radio
station WOAJL, who keeps in touch
with the hospital personnel with
his equipment.
Kim, daughter of Dr, and Mrs.
K. T. Sasano, departed last No-
vember from New York City aboard
the vessel for a year's assign-
ment to Ecuador. The CU gradu-
ate was assistant head nurse at
Rose Memorial Hospital. If she
accepts another year's work on the
project, it was thought that the
ships next port of call will be
Conakry, French Guiana, in west
Africa. It is the Atlantic port of
the city of Tombo, and some 400
miles southeast of Dakar. Before
the Guayaquil assignment, the ves-
sel spenta year inSalaverry, Peru.
The only other nisei aboard the
ship is Dr. Don Hayashi, oph-
thalmologist, from San Mateo,
Calif. The floating hospital serves
as a 130-bed university teaching
institution with laboratory, clinical
and surgical facilities, it is staff-
ed by 25 physicians and dentists
and 35 nurses. The mission's en-
terprise, costing $5 millions year-
ly, is to improve medical practice
in that country.
LEADERSHIP CAMP Carol
Jitsuda, chosen as one of 19 jun-
ior counselors to attend Camp
Cheley, national youth leadership
camp. Carols parents are Mr. and
Mrs. Richard Beck, 8120 Raleigh
St., Westminster. Camp is spon-
sored by the Denver Public
Schools.

People And Places
The Colo. Japanese Assn,'s wel-
fare program primarily ministers
to the needs of kin-less and in-
digent isseis. The present fund
campaign for this project has al-
ready netted over $5,000.
In Chicago, the Japanese Amer-
ican Service Committee under-
takes social service programs
which include the type of services
provided by the Colorado organi-
zation. The windy city committee's
director, Yoji Ozaki, supervises
services to the issei which include
organizing naturalization classes,
information and library services,
work and social center. Additional-
ly, Ozaki's staff undertakes social
case work among the niseis, san-
seis, warbrides, and the isseis.

TWO BUDDING SCIENTISTS Science Fair at North High displayed

Stanley's three-month project, required microscopic culture studies
of rice, rolled oats and other products. His project title was "Problem:
Death Among Protozoans, Causes and Solutions." Jean improvised
cardbox incubator to hatch chicken eggs. Her parents pre-science
fair problem: "Where do we find hatching eggs in Denver?'*

The Japanese Association of Colorados welfare department serves
the friendless, the kin-less and the indigent isseis. The depart-
ment, for example, took care of more than 50 funeral services
during the pa£t seven years for these unfortunate isseis among us.
Now the depleted fund of this department must be replenished.
We trust that, out of your regard forthese unfortunate, aged persons
among us, and our effort in their behalf, you will wish to donate

meter (0.621 miles) between Shimbashi and Kyobashi bridges via
the Owaricho intersection, will be faced with colored tiles by summer.
The tiling work is expected to start at any time in April pending
the final decision by the Ginza Storekeepers Association as regards
the color of the tiles and the patterns. The project will cost about
Â¥35,000,000.
