2 Post Scholarships ROCKY MOUNTAIN
Two Cathay American Legion
Post scholarships will be among
those'to be awarded to high school
graduates at the Mile Hi JACL din-
ner dance Sat., June 13, at Albany
Hotel. Tom Masamoriis the chair-
man of the Post's $200Cathay Post
and the $250 Nisei War Memorial
awards.
Evaluation of candidates is to be
processed by the Mile Hi JACL
chapter which is concurrently
handling its own scholastic awards
program: the $250 Harry H. Sa-
kata Memorial, the $150 and the
$100 chapter awards. Recipients of
the five awards will be announced
at the dinner dance.
Source of the fund for Cathay
Post's $250 scholarship is the
interest drawn on the $6,700 de-
posited in the perpetual Nisei War
Memorial Fund.
Application deadline for each of
these scholarships is Thursday,
April 30. Applicants, opened to
Rocky Mtn. Region, should con-
tact JACL office at 1225-20th st*,
Denver, Colorado 80202.

Children Get Acquainted With Garden
It's possible that as many as a
hundred children, sacrificing their
normal devotion to after-school
play, may be found toiling some
afternoons in the Children's Gar-
den at the Denver Botanic Gar-
dens, 909 York st.
It is a supervised program.
Only ihe diligent survive the sparing
and summer garden program, and
the negligent are replaced with
other children on the waiting list.
The childrens instrctors are Dr.
A. C. Hildreth and Joseph Oppe.
Supervisors of the young tillers
of fiie soil are members of the
mothers committee, including
Mrs. Edward Kawakami of 4916
E. Iowa Ave. There were last
year at least two sanseis in this
program, Tia, the Kawakamis'
daughter who won first prize and
$5.00 from the Agricultural Com-
mittee, and Sharon Tsushima.
Tia's father is a programmer
in the data processing establish-
ment at the U.S. Air Force Fin-
ance Center.
WESTMINSTER Participants
at the recentNational Baton Twirl-
ing Assn, competition at West-
minster High included Susan Ugai
from North Platte, Nebr. She was
a winner in the advanced solo divi-
sion contest.
ICS Conference
Peaceful Valley Lodge, west of
Lyons, will be the setting for the
annual three-day ICS conference
beginning this Friday.
Conference chairman is DanMa-
saki of CU, file organization's act-
ing president, and the principal
speaker will be Jack Mayeda of
San Francisco, administrative as-
sistant at the National JACL head-
quarters office.
All Tied Up
Sue Akiyama, Sam Matsumoto,
William Puryear and DorothyTal-
madge were tied for fourth place
in the recent Denver Spring Sec-
tional Bridge Tourney at Denver
Hilton Hotel.
Life Masters, Ken Yabe and
Mary Mier won the open pairs con-
solation round.

45 CHOIR SINGERS fromKansai
Gakuin University near Kobe will

Philip Harumi Ogata of CU, an
education major graduating in
June, is one of 65 students chosen
for Phi Beta Kappa membership.
He is practice teaching American
and Oriental history at Boulder
High School from which he graduat-

The scholar, who lives in Boul-
der with his grandmother, Mrs.
Mitsue Ogata, is the son of Mrs.
Mae Nitta of 1030 Hazel Ct. The

Last year, Joyce Takamine of
Denver was file graduating CU sen-
ior who was elected member of
fids scholastic fraternity. A math-
ematics major, she is employed
at fiie computer laboratory of the
National Aeronautics and Space

National Convention
Detroit The 18th Biennial Na-
tional JACL Convention Headquar-
ter here in the Motor City is
rushing pre-registration of offic-
ial chapter delegates and boosters
from all parts of theUnitedStates.
A special pre-registration pack-
age deal of $29.00, which includ-
es the $2,00 registration fee plus
the cost of all official events of
the convention, was announced by
registration chairman, Walter
Miyao. It will include the Pine
Knob outing, official luncheon,
Testimonial Banquet, Convention
Banquet and Sayonara Ball as well
as the registration fee. Regular
rates will cost $34.50.

ton Satow of the Cheyenne Moun-

Housing Policy
Ft. Collins Policy regulations
issued by the State Board of Agri-
culture Friday requires landlords
who list properties with CSU to
certify that they will comply with
the Colorado Fair Housing Act of
1959 and fiie executive order issu-
ed by Gov. John Love. The order
is intended to curtail housing dis-
crimination based on racial dis-
tinctions.

Two Teaas Split Cage Title Honors
Sakura-En and Fuji-En teams
tied up the top spot to close the
CNBL season Apr. 17 with 11 wins
and a loss apiece. The win-loss
record of other teams follow:
Simpson-7-5, PIayboys-6-6,
Bussei No. 1-4-8, George's Con-
oco-3-9, Bussei No. 2-0-12, Safc-
ura-En, on points scored and con-
ceded, was the top team with 626
and 307. Fuji-En scored 548, con-
ceded 316 points.
Members of the all-star team,
by players* votes, are; Sakura-
En's Ken Namba and Walt Sagara,
Fuji-En*s Reggie Lee and Ron
Yamamoto, Simpson's Ron Fox and
Bussei No. l's Tom Kimura. Floyd
Ito received the "Most Valuable
Player" award.

been restored to its
original condition atop
hill at Momoyama-
cho, Fushimi-ku, Kyo-
to* A ceremony mark-
ing the completion of
the new castle was
held on March 20.
The original Fushi-
mi-Momoyama Castle,
considered to have
been one of the most
luxurious castles in the
feudal days, was built
by Lord Hideyoshi To-
yotomi some 370 years

Mt. Fuji Highway
J'HE new toll highway linking Lake Kawaguchi in the Five Fuji Lakes
area, Yamanashi Prefecture, with the fifth station on Mt. Fuji has
been christened as the Fuji Subaru Line.
The completely paved highway 6.5 meters (21.3 feet) in width and
stretching about 30 kilometers (18.75 miles), was built by the Yama-
nashi Prefectural Government as a means to develop the prefectures
tourist industry.
