Flood Area
Montana's sparsely settled
Japanese American population ap-
pears to have escaped the floods
last week which swept through an
area southwest of Glacier National
Park, on the east slope of the con-
tinental divide.
Of the less than 600 persons
of Japanese descent living in the
state, perhaps half a dozen famil-
ies reside in Great Fails, which
escaped the disaster. That com-
munity is the major commercial
center close to the flood area.
Kalispell and Whitefish, which
together account for nearly two do-
zen individuals and families, also
escaped thatflood. These two towns
are located west of the park and
on the west slope of the continen-
tal divide.
