DECEMBER 2014
YOUR GUIDE TO MARIJUANA IN
COLORADO

light Up!
Colorado’s cannabis business was already booming in November 2012 when voters approved Amendment 64, which legalized recreational sales of cannabis. Although voters in Washington approved legalizing sales that day, too, that state wasn’t nearly as far along with proposed regulations for the business, so Colorado logged another first, becoming the first state to allow the retail sale of cannabis as of January 1, 2014. And what a long, strange trip it’s been since then.
Colorado continues to be the focus of endless national media stories, and the one-year anniversary is certain to bring more coverage.
Meanwhile, the medical marijuana industry is becoming increasingly sophisticated in Colorado, as dispensaries tailor their services to patients with specific needs and desires.
And we’re making some changes to the Chronicle, too. In recognition of the unique role of MM J, we’re splitting our dispensary listings: You’ll find the medical center listings after William Breathes’s story on his top ten MMJ strains this year. Those listings are followed by a story on two DIY ways to smoke — for all the newbies in the crowd attracted to recreational sales — and then our rec center listings.
Ofcourse, thebimonthly Chronicle is just the start of our coverage of this dynamic industry. There’s the weekly e-mail newsletter, Toke of the Town, as well as our 24/7 news and marijuana pages at westword.com, where you’ll also find Ask a Stoner, a regular feature of the print edition of Westword.
If you have a question for our Stoner or any other suggestions for a story, e-mail marijuana@ westword.com or call our potline at 303-293-2222.
