enver is having a record year for tourism. Colorado is having a record year for tourism. Sure, gas prices are down, as is fire danger, so it’s no surprise that visitors are flocking to the state. But still, let’s give credit where credit is due: Legalized marijuana has brought many tourists to Colorado, and they’ve brought plenty of cash with them. Cash that they drop not j ust at dispensaries, but at restaurants, shops, attractions and hotels. And that liquid asset shows no sign of drying up anytime soon.
By our count, Colorado now has more than 550 open dispensaries (you’ll find listings for all of them in this issue). Some are strictly medical, some are only recreational, some cater to both medical patients and recreational customers. But no matter which kind of pot they stock, it’s clear that marijuana is big business in this state, and the industry isn’t going up in smoke now or in the foreseeable future.
