About The Camp Amache Collections

The Camp Amache Collections of Auraria Library consist of five small named collections representing several personal perspectives on the Granada War Relocation Center, Colorado's sole Japanese-American internment camp. Over 7,000 Japanese-American internees were housed at Camp Amache from 1942 until the end of the World War II. Internees lived, worked, and were educated in Camp Amache when prevailing political and social doctrines of the day demanded "temporary assembly" of Japanese-American, who were considered a threat to national security during the Second World War.
